Goats make a come back at Blueberry Park

Photo courtesy Ferguson family, 2006In case you missed them last year, the goats are coming back to work this summer at Blueberry Park [ map ]. From the Metro Parks press release:

Metro Parks Tacoma has hired 120 uniquely skilled temporary workers to help clean up an area of Blueberry Park ... currently choked with invasive weeds. The goats, scheduled to arrive at the park July 16, will earn their keep by eating their way through brush and overgrowth. The crew travels with a shepherd and a herding dog and will be contained in electric fencing and supervised at all times.

This is a great chemical-free way to help clear the park of invasive plants and help preserve and promote the health of the blueberry bushes and nearby wetlands. The crew of 120 goats should have arrived yesterday and you're welcome to stop by and see them in action during the regular sunrise to sunset park hours.
