Past City leader hopes to serve again soon
At 77, Harold Moss is running for the North End and Westgate neighborhood's city council seat. Moss registered at the last minute against Spiro Manthou who, until then, looked like he might run un-apposed. Though anyone putting their name in the hat that late in the game could be seen as a spoiler just trying to steal some attention, Moss has a history of service to Tacoma that extends back 30 years. As a profile by Todd Matthews over at the Daily Index shows, this candidate has been to the City Council, Mayor's office, to the county council and now potentially back again. In Moss's words, from the article:
"A whole lot of the dreams, hopes, and aspirations are coming to fruition. But there is that other thing -- if you rest, you rust. If we just take it for granted that it's always going to be a boomtown, that's not necessarily so. You really have to continue to work at it."
"Most people, with my age, they never really see me at that age -- 77 years old. I think all of us are coming to grips with the old adage that your seventies are now your sixties, or one way or the other. We're living longer, stronger. I've still got my facilities. I still have that burning passion to serve."
It's a great look into a local candidate and into someone who surely has a unique perspective among all those running this year for Tacoma City Council. As with the question of what we'd call Bill if Hillary is elected, would people refer to Moss as "former Mayor..." or "councilmember..."?
