Narrows Bridge lights in the budget

Narrows Bridge lights in WA state budget

The good news for Tacoma out of the weekend is the inclusion of partial funding for decorative lights for the Narrows Bridges. The even better news? We may get lights far sooner than we thought. The $1.5 million allocated was thought to be just the start of fund raising to light both bridges. In conversations with members of the grassroots NarrowsBridgeLights.org the DOT was very clear they supported decorative lighting but wanted nothing to stand in the way of the bridge construction proper. Apparently that tune has changed and they are now on-board to where they may utilize the $1.5 million as a work order on the current construction project. Putting up lights on the new bridge while the catwalks still stand would save everyone money and the DOT now realizes this.

There are still more details to work out but, if all goes well, we should have a beautifully lit new Narrows Bridge in time for the opening ceremonies. This project will be a huge source of pride for the region and an icon to be photographed.
