Old City Hall condos on-hold
A article in today's News Tribune says the condo project at Old City Hall is in a holding pattern. One non-profit tenant won't/can't move and the cooling housing market also plays into it. Though owning company CEO George Webb didn't directly say it's easy to fathom that rising materials cost aren't the only reason he's re-thinking how to work condos into Old City Hall.
6/2 - Nothing's new at Old City Hall, TNT
The number of $500K+ condos in this area is ridiculous, if I may say. We should work to attract people that can afford places with decent square footage at prices a couple hundred thousand less. These are the people who are going to live, work and raise families here. Though I'm sure the novelty of living in one vintage building or another is great, maybe mixing it up a little with condos, offices and restaurants would do nicely. That way, if one market/economy falters the others can help keep the building vibrant. An entire wall of condos (see Vintage Y and the Robson five feet next door and the Esplanade) along our hillside will do us no good if all we get are residents and not place to work or play. What we surely don't need in downtown is yet another vacant building which, I fear, Old City Hall will be for years to come.
