See Old City Hall gallery in the new City Hall

Old City Hall gallery (photo by Naomi Strom-Avila)Our "photo safari" outing to Old City Hall last month was a total blast that I won't soon forget. A gallery with some of the resulting work is now on display in the new/current City Hall. They went up in the 12th floor hallway last week and have even been reviewed in the News Tribune. Of my posted work, Rosemary Ponnekanti said the following:

Kevin Freitas plays a Gothic riff with harsh white sunlight and interior shadows: his "Untitled 1" squints up to a blaze of light at the top of a stair like something out of "The Shining."

Kinda' cool considering it's my first art review and I'm pretty much an amateur at this kinda' thing. I chose to focus the three shots I contributed on "light" since I was often pretty struck by how it poked through the windows and onto the grand old brickwork of the building. It seemed to give the place a timeless, cathedral like quality which, I suppose, is where the "gothic" critique might come from.

Thanks to the City of Tacoma for leading the safari and their willingness to display the fruits of our artistic labors. The gallery is on display on the 12th floor of the City Hall/Municipal building until June 22 during normal business hours.
