GPS + Camera + Location = Waymarking

The News Tribune has a story up about a bit of nerdly fun you can have around town. Waymarking is a hobby in which locals with GPS and digital cameras tag locations around town and post info about them online. It's a more educational form of Geocaching in which folks are led around via GPS coordinates to find little hidden treasures or caches. For waymarking, people choose from categories on the website and try to find and document spots around to share with others.

Sounds fun! I have an old GPS that I used to do some geocaching a couple years ago around town. Sometimes it wasn't just a point but a riddle to solve that would take you on a path that led to numerous points until finally reaching the cache. Yea, that got time-consuming. I might have to give waymarking a try anyway since it combines my love for sharing, photography, and geographic data points. OK, maybe that "data points" thing isn't a love but, working in databases everyday, a guy comes to appreciate such things.

No matter how into it, this is yet another great way to get out and get to know your town.
