Weekend Events ~ Lots of D's
Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and the Dockyard Derby Dames. See? D's.
Tonight will be an interesting one for a couple reasons. First, I've never attended a Dia de los Muertos event before aside from a meager excuse for a celebration in my high school Spanish class. Tonight there's a precession along Sixth Ave starting at 7pm in front of Masa and I'm in the band accompanying the group. I'm sure it will be a chilly occasion but one to be seen. Afterwards there will be libations and a ceremony inside Masa. Should be a fascinating time especially that we'll be weaving our way along the sidewalk among all the Friday night bustle along Sixth Ave. There's also more Day of the Dead Sunday at the Tacoma Art Museum where there will be folk music, dancing and great food. Both these events are free and all are welcome!
Saturday night I'm heading to the last Dockyard Derby Dames bout of the season. I really enjoyed my first bout and am looking forward to this one. The gals put on some great matches and show some serious agility and skill on the track. Since I'm spending the afternoon rollerskating for a friends birthday I'll definitely be in the mood to see someone skate that knows what their doing! Doors open at 6pm and general admission at the door is $12.
What are you doing this weekend?
