DS9 and Dr. Leake

This is an image that I took of Converse Hall here at Valdosta State University. Looking toward the north wing, you can see that palm trees grow like children and the Spanish motif and red-tiled roof are a staple of VSU's architecture. It's a very comfortable place to live and mostly consists of upper-classmen single rooms. At a minimum the rooms sport and bathroom and kitchenet. However, we will soon be scuttled from the north wing to the south (not visible and too the left of the image) to make way for the renovations that have already finished in the latter wing to take place.

As the fires in the Okeefenokee Swamp burn on, our skies continue to be tainted by its smoke. The Sun rays struggle through the smoggy mess in this image taken about mid-evening time. Although a product of a small disaster, the veil makes for a beautiful sight.

Today was a date punctuated by a trip to Dr. Leake's abode to catch the 2nd to last episode of Star Trek: Deep Space 9. Erika came with us, however reluctantly, to enjoy pizza and the near finalé. Amidst Dr. Leake's two cats (Jupiter and Eclipse and yes, the names are appropriate) she treated Erika and I to a brief family history and photos of them and her past experiences in the Peace Corp in Malaysia. After this and the pizza, we linguistically challenged one another in a game of Scrabble. My monosyllabic ways did little for my score but I must say, it was a good time. Finally, enough time was killed and DS9 came on. We sat back and enjoyed — except for Erika. The poor girl had never seen an episode of the show and we sit her down to see the 2nd to last episode of the 7 year series. Doh! Dr. Leake and I did our best to make Erika feel like a guest at Quark's bar by briskly describing the show during the commercial breaks.
