Hey, move it, buddy

Not to be too literal about things but I moved today. Converse Hall is my home away from home for the summer here at VSU. Like most universities, summer is a time for a bit of primping and cleaning to take place. It's a time when students don't matter and high school fed camps move in. So, what better time to renovate the dorms?! There are two wings in Converse. I was on the first floor of the two-story section up until today. The three-story wing has been under surgery since I've been here. Now that the finishing touches are being slathered on the walls in this wing, they'll soon start on the former. So, that's why I (and others) moved. Now I sit on the third floor of a room with a new air conditioner, fresh linoleum tile, and a brand eye-spanking new fluorescent light.

One other development in my life here in the sultry South today was the weather. As a resident of the interior valleys of the Pacific Northwest, I'm acclimated to a temperate climate which is currently barely taking temperatures out of the 50s. Heck, Mt. Baker in Washington is setting record snowfall levels for the year as we speak! Anyway, being used to a somewhat grayer and cooler system of weather I thought being in the deep South would slam me to the ground. I thought it would be an easy way for mother nature to deter people from the north moving down here. Not likely. It's beautiful here and, as I have discovered, 95º isn't that bad. I don't know what's come over me! A man walked by me today and mentioned something like, "It's a hot one out there," to which I replied, "'S not that bad."

So, if anyone out there even catches me complaining about how searing the heat is here, just smack me 'round a bit and tell me to stop the exaggerating. It's not that bad and, I must say, I rather like it. The Solar energy that seems to percolate through the body when the temperature flings itself above ninety is invigorating. I guess the true test will be coming back to the Northwest. Hope it's not too cold...
