Jacked Jack
Zowie, what a time! After rising at 7am, scarfing down a quick Corn Flakes and orange juice breakfast, Dr. Benham led the PLU caravan to the Bishop Museum just outside of Honolulu. With our Millenium Jack keeping faithful watch over our car, we parked and entered the museum. The natural and cultural history of Hawaii and surrounding Polynesian island groups are the subjects covered by the museum. We were treated to a basic tour of Hawaii's ancient cultures by a PLU alumni's brother that worked at the museum. I also had a chance to explore a more kid-oriented exhibit on alien species introduced to the islands, saw a demonstration of Hawaiian music and dance, then sat under the stars in the Bishop Museum's planetarium where we took a voyage from Hawaii to Tahiti and back using only the cosmos as our guide. We all then soon departed for lunch and got ready for an afternoon beaching ourselves.
And beach we did indeed. Kristin, Jerry, Heather, Renee and I walked from our hotel to ocean and found the rest of the "class" just where we thought they'd be. After a time of relaxing on the sand waiting for my sunscreen to set in I joined the party in the water and brought the ol' Aerobee. We tossed it around amidst the Sunshine and clear water, only to briefly lose our toy below the surface once or twice. It was a great time although the water eventually got to me. Yes, it's sad but even the waters of Hawaii proved too cold for this fatless body. I warmed up again in the Sun and Matt, Jerry and I took to really large nearby field and threw the Aerobee back and forth. Just when my mouth became really dry and yearning for water we walked back to the hotel and got ready for dinner at Tony Roma's. The food we all bought was well worth our money, especially considering how bloated the prices are at Sizzler when we tried to eat there the night before. We all felt very satisfied with dinner and had a great time together. With new fuel in our bellies most of the group took the rest of the evening to wander and barter about Honolulu's infamous International Marketplace. Basically consisting of tens of "special" gift stands the marketplace is perhaps the best example of consumer targeted redundancy I've ever seen. With much left to be desired, I had a tough time finding anything that I wanted to will on anybody else's dresser top. Junk is junk, whether bought in Hawaii or in Washington. Period.
Oh, and sometime between last night and after we left the Bishop Museum today the Millenium Jack I brought from the Mainland and chose to christen it by adorning our rental Taurus with it was stolen! With few leads to go on, we can only remain hopeful that Jack will be returned to his rightful owner car antenna with much haste.
