Coral Snacks!

Not too much lecture after breakfast this morning. Had one that briefly covered some types of fish and coral that we would find while snorkeling today in Kona at the Kahalu'u Beach Park. The drive was quick and slightly stuffy but was well worth the mileage when the snorkeling began. The water here today was in prime form for a snorkeling bunch of collegiate howlies. After lathering up a bunch of us passed the absorption time for the sunscreen by browsing through the colorful picture-plenty fish guides. The very moment we felt our bodies were properly prepared for the pounding solar rays we tripped into our floppy footwear and floated around in the warm, clear, and docile surf. I personally entered the water three times to look at the sea life. The first two times I found myself rather chilly and hence didn't spend much time in the water. After lunch my I let my body warmed my body up on the pebbly sand, killing time by pinpointing our location, reading some astronomy facts & figures, and picking fights with others by tossing rocks in their general direction. Once I embarked on my third excursion into the water I found myself in clearer water than before. My body also had less trouble keeping comfortable as I found its temperature tolerable throughout the swim. The clear water offered up incredible, colorful sights and somewhat amusing crunching sounds as various parrot fish took to devouring chunks of tasty coral. I'll get a list of fish I saw there today up here on this page.

We're driving home from "class" today taking Highway 19 north around the island. Rolling hills, rainbows, and astronomical observatories are lit by the bright sun at our backs. As we climb higher the sky grows gray and will surely pour rain down on us as we cross over to the wetter, windward side of the island. Just for the record, Waimea is one of the most beautiful towns I've ever seen.
