Pilgrims in an un-holy land

An ACTUAL photo on Yahoo!

"Governor Bush, if a child were to be blessed by your phonics plans and then successfully progress through elementary, middle, and high school, what would happen to that child when they realize they could not attend a four year college or university because, although literate, they still can't afford tuitions ranging into the tens of thousands of dollars a year?"

Too bad I didn't get to ask that one at the G.W. Bush rally in Lakewood. Tonight marks the first night of my truly active citizenship in the United States of America. Me, along with Matt Cameron and Matt Agee drove the seven miles to Clover Creek High School so we could see what G.W. had to say—which was nothing. A DJ from some station in Seattle "warmed" the crowd up with his time stretching perspectives on Bill Clinton and the lack of progress that has taken place on Capitol Hill in the last eight years. His shakey opinions finally led into the main event.

His mouth moved and sounds issued from it but I don't really recall him saying a thing all night. Taking no stand on collegiate education, abortion, or the environment, the Governor of the Lone Star State took plenty of time to tout his family values (which include loaded weapons and phonics) and his plan to give back to the American People. Although never a military man, Bush made a stand on keeping a strong military to defend this wonderful nation (kinda' like letting everyone have guns).

At any rate, I'm not going to vote for that man. He really does nothing for me and, in fact, only helps me know that, in the future, I'll look forward to not voting for men like him. As for what I thought of the cult of personality that surrounded us tonight: it makes me wonder how this country doesn't simply tear itself apart at its seams.

Tomorrow, the political endeavours of yours truly continue as I plan to spend the latter part of the day at a John McCain rally being held right here on the lovely campus of PLU. Stay tuned for video highlights and commentary as I continue my coverage of

Millenium 2000 Vote 2K
