No more Dallas
In the physical sense of the phrase, Dallas, a dog my family owned since before I was in second grade, was put to sleep at the vet yesterday morning. Despite the unfortunate and surprising turn of events that my mom had to deal with she said it perfectly in the sad email she sent to me and my sister late yesterday: "He was such a klutz and clown, but loveable in his own way."
Even though I didn't have a great emotional attachment to Dallas, he was the only dog I knew through his entire life. I had some great times playing with him when I was younger at our old house in Hazel Dell. Although he slowed (mentally and physically) with age, Dallas probably didn't have an unkind bone in his body.
Two things remain: my family's loving memory of him and the fact that, in my mind, he'll always be "Puppy" to me.
