Trippin' to Forks

There's nothing like taking time to enjoy relaxation. Sarah and I are now in Forks, WA at the Miller Tree Bed & Breakfast doing just that. This is actually my Birthday gift to her. Next Easter Sunday (April 23rd, 2000) marks Sarah's rollover to the ripe old age of twenty-one. Her time away in England made me decide to surprise her this year with a trip to a somewhat local, yet away from PLU destination. Actually, this is a great idea for a gift on my end 'cause otherwise would've had a heck of a time trying to figure on something to get her.

At any rate, our drive over here was a lovely one. We set out around 11am and, aside from a hold up at the Hood Canal bridge, had smooth sailing all our way here. Our favorite mid-drive eye-snatching location had to be Lake Crescent. Midway between Port Angeles and Forks on Highway 101 lies Lake Crescent, a clear, deep, and lengthy body of water at the feet of the Olympic Mountains. We were startled at the fact that, despite a mostly cloudy sky, the water bore a stunning turquoise color that hinted at the lake's sheer clarity. We were happy to drive along the banks of such a treasure and sad to leave it behind. Nevertheless, to Forks we were bound!

Before our check-in time at the B&B, we wandered around the prime rock collecting Rialto Beach. A mere 10 miles or so from our destination, fields of massive driftwood lay before the pounding surf and bore highlights of the afternoon Sun. The beach itself stretched wide and sloped dutifully into the sea. Little sand and lots of smooth, colored rocks tempted this geology minded guy and (much to my enjoyment) his lovely business endowed girlfriend. When all was said and done, the business major actually ended up palming more of the beach's rocks than I did. Could this be some kind of collegiate cry for change? This geology major would like to think so.

We then checked in to the Millertree and were welcomed into the beautiful business/home of Bill & Susan Brager. Sarah and I carried in our bags and briefly got ourselves settled. The time, as told by our stomachs, was dinnertime so Sarah and I asked Susan to describe the quality of the two Chinese places in Forks. We decided to eat at the Golden Gate in town about 5 blocks from the Inn. We ate, enjoyed, then headed back to the Inn. We spent the rest of our evening lounging around the social rooms in the house. We attempted to start a 1000 piece puzzle but were quickly halted by our [lack of] patience. I think my attempt to construct the hardest part of the puzzle first (the ocean) was our downfall. No matter because we spent the last part of our evening in the hot tub! Darn, how sad. It felt great!
