A good Tuesday
Sarah left this morning after having breakfast in the UC with myself and a couple friends. I rang her up on her new cell phone shortly after my second class of the morning ended and she had already made it past Salem, Oregon. Time flew by because I just didn't imagine that, gee, two classes on Tuesday equal about three-and-a-half hours of time; plenty in which Sarah could make it past Salem (about 3 hours from here). She made it home safely and had a smooth drive the whole wy down. It was great spending time with her this weekend and, altough I was sad to see her go, it'll be nice to see her again in two weeks.
Jazz choir tonight was a special treat. We rehearsed at Illahee Junior High in Federal Way and worked with their jazz band on two charts that we'll perform with them this Friday at a fund raising dinner/dance/auction. Our jazz choir director Wayne Bliss also directs the jazz band there and, I must say, has done an incredible job with the kids over there. With tons of help from a tight and (how should I say?) forceful drummer (he broke two sticks during that rehearsal alone) they pasted most of the music to the wall! It was fantastic to see such a group play with that much emotion at such a young age. I couldn't help wonder what my musical skills would be now were I exposed to such a driving jazz experience that young in life. One thing's for sure, the trophies they bring home from competitions are well deserved. I can't wait for the gig this Friday night!

The drive home from the middle school was a good time. Paul drove Matt, Gavin, and I to and fro the rehearsal. Gavin and I were akin to what we called the jazz choir poparattzi on the way back. We stalked hapless motorists with our sharp-shooting digital cameras the entire trip back to Parkland. Some targets were random while another was Britta Hobbs' blue Volvo sedan that, too, was packed with jazz choir members. I'm sure this is just a preview of the digital photographic insanity that Gavin and I will create this summer. Keep your eyes out. You never know when you might be on Gavin and Kevin's [Digital] Candid Camera!
