The end of the year as we know it
It's true. There's only one official week of normal school left in this year. It becomes more and more apparent that summer is creeping up on us all by the various events that come around this time of year. Our last concert was last Friday and, I must say, it was a fantastic year for vocal jazz here at PLU. We grew from a group of choral artists to a worthy set of jazzers. Our director, the most-qualified Wayne Bliss, took the choral talents of the groups he assembled and taught us about jazz in all its real and non-cheesy forms. We took this knowledge coupled with strong vocal chords and won at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in February. So now that we've had our final concert, I have to look back and realize how much I've enjoyed the group and the experiences in music and friendship that have grown out of it.
And then there's the dorms excuse me residence halls. We were mandated by the powers-that-be to have our beds in a formation known as "Freshman" by 10pm PST tonight. This ritual is carried out well before the end of the year to avoid loud disturbances to studiously studying students. With tools in hand, Matt and I successfully tore apart our bunking creation, returned extra bed parts, and settled for a normal, Freshman Formation bunking situation. Before I know it, I'll be writing about rolling up the carpet and hauling stuff out to my car.
And then there's the weather. OH the weather outside is delightful... Today was perfect. Temperature, slight breeze, and for some reason it seemed unusually quiet out. Although I wasted away this afternoon inside a darkened cinema watching Gladiator, I truly enjoyed what Mother Nature served up. Upon walking from lower to upper campus after the movie, the green belt on the side of the hill was especially green today. No doubt rain from this year seemed to drag on forever but the gift of green that was apparent on a day like today was well worth the seemingly drenching normal weather patterns. I could get used to this. Perhaps next time I'll make a point of getting out to enjoy it too!
