Round 1
The rest of yesterday went as it predictably should have. Once in Fresno we drove straight out of town to Kingsburg. My aunt Lena and uncle Corky own a farm out there and we were hoping to make it there in time to catch them and my parents before taking off for lunch. We had no such luck so we resorted to breaking and entering their house so we could enjoy their air conditioning. Actually, no crime was commited because in my family nothing is off-limits. David, Toni, Sarah and I talked and waited around aunt Lena and uncle Corky's place until someone showed up. The first car that came by wasn't them at all but it was my aunt Helen and uncle Sig from southern California. We greeted them and told them what was going on. While spending time introducing Sarah and David to this other set of relatives yet another car pulled up this time with the people we originally wanted to see. More greetings, hugs, and introductions then came our way. I'm sure by this time Sarah and David felt like they may be quizzed on everyone's names at some later date. I reassured Sarah that this was only the beginning and that she'd meet plenty more relatives tomorrow.
We talked a bit longer out at the farm but then drove back into town with my parents to grab a quick bite to eat and head over to my the house of my mom's friend Judy and George Petrutis. We talked back and forth there for a few more hours only to head off to meet more relatives for dinner at a local Tex-Mex restaurant. Uncle Lanny and aunt Lynn were the next to be introduced to Toni's and my significant others. Dinner passed well (except for that hot jalapeno I tried - WHEW!) and we then drove back to uncle Lanny's house to do some more chatting. My day ended talking to Sarah and how capable of a woman she is when it comes to understanding and learning in an academic environment. I just know that these attributes would do nothing but drive her to kick butts with any job/internship she may come across. Oh well. She'll never know. She can't step outside of her own body to see what I see.
So today is the big day. Everyone's up and we're only waiting for Sarah to finish her bowl of cereal and glass of OJ then we'll be off to Kingsburg and a clump of yet-to-be-introduced relatives. Despite the smoldering weather I'm positive there'll be nothing but good times out there today. That is if I can remember eveyone's name.
