Saturday's package

I can hear it distinctly now: "Here comes the bride..." It's a very distinctive piece, especially when I've taken to watching A Wedding Story on The Learning Channel. Yes, today I went to a wedding. My friend Josh and his long-time girlfriend Holly tied the so-called knot today at a cute gable-adorned wedding house in Olympia, Washington. Although a misty rain shrouded any hopes we had for the wedding luck prevailed. The Sun started to shine about half way between Tacoma and Olympia which meant the wedding was outside. Josh and Holly were married in a lovely setting amongst a nice number of family and friends. The brilliant smile on Holly's face was easily visible from underneath her veil and the understandable nerves Josh was feeling were plainly visible in the perfect weather. Although weddings aren't my favorite activities, it was great to be there to witness these two pledging themselves to one another.

The other big news of the day came in the morning. After I got mostly ready for the wedding, I left the house to fill up my car's gas tank. Before that, however, I made a brief stop at the post office. Knowing the absence of everyone in our house was set to occur this afternoon, I deduced that any package that might arrive today couldn't be signed for under these conditions. Knowing how impatient I can be sometimes, I checked in at the post office this morning to ask them if my package was, by any chance, still there and not already on a truck somewhere. I got lucky according to the postal worker and he handed over to me a box containing the next member of my family of gadgets: a new Toshiba PDR-M5 digital camera. I hurried over to the gas station to fill up Dijon then anxiously drove home. I had already forced open the taped box while waiting for a spot at the gas station and was spilling styrofoam peanuts before I made it back to the house. It was all over once I got home. I scurried up to my room and wasted no time unpacking and powering on the camera. My first target? Sarah. She had just finished with a shower and I caught her in her bathrobe. She put up with me though because she knew how thrilled I was.

Overall these two events made for a great day. Saturday melted into and early Sunday while Matt Turner, Gavin, Sarah and I played computer games until (with the exception of Sarah) 3am. Matt hauled his system over to our house and we congregated in the living room so we could enjoy some light gaming with one another. To pack all of this into one Saturday was a pleasure.
