Jack the jerk

The last day I spent working as a Network Technician at PLU was a short one. I was absolutely happy to be a part of the team that strings miles of wire across campus just so everyone can be connected to the internet. It felt like a great learning experience and I have to thank everyone that works in CompTelc at PLU. I felt welcome and appreciated in your ranks.

My work day was cut short by the welcome departure of me and eight of my friends. We set out around 3pm for Jack's Restaurant and Store in the Cascade Mtns. on Highway 503 about 25 miles east of Woodland, WA. There we entered all our names into a lottery to vie for the remaining 40 hiking permits to climb Mt. St. Helens for the next day. The lottery was slated to begin at 6pm sharp but, as the big man that ran the place gracefully pointed out, was delayed by my compadres and my nearly tardy arrival. He huffed and he puffed as he accepted the carnival-esque lottery ticket stubs we entered into the offical drawing tub. The crowd that gathered at Jack's was more significant that I presumed it would be and the nine of us in our groups worried that our chance for permits wouldn't arise.

After a time, both Gavin and Allison's stub numbers were called and our chances were good. Although only four permits per person could be had, Gavin found that a couple guys near him in line only needed three permits and that they would pick up the one more that we needed. This year, Mt. St. Helens would be ours!

And knowing it would be ours made the rest of tonight great. We drove to Aaron's cabin at the Lake Merwin Camper's Hideaway and quickly I began to cook our spaghetti dinner. After food and some meteor watching the group of us set off for dreamland so we could be ready for tomorrow's task.
