Newton's paint job
My Friday ended with a very fulfilling time taking a few pictures on the digital camera that I let Sarah borrow earlier that day for a school project. I briefly wandered around just outside of the library and took a few shots of the fall foliage. Once one of my memory cards was full I continued on towards Sarah's house so we could go out and get some dinner. I stopped to take note of a small and somewhat urban apple tree just across the street from her house and realized that only one red apple was still hanging from its limbs. No doubt I wanted to take a picture of this unique sight so I unpacked my camera, loaded up a new memory card, and cleared it so I could capture the moment.
Little did I know that I truly only had a moment. As I prepared my camera Sarah walked out of her house to check the mail. She was confused as to why I was standing across the street so she came to investigate. I aimed my camera and tried to set up a shot that I would be proud of. Shortly thereafter, while I glanced in the direction of my approaching girlfriend, a gentle puff of wind wandered through the area. Normally I would think nothing of such a gust but this one burned a beautiful and hilarious image into my head. The apple, which I was so impressed had hung on to that sad looking tree for so long, dropped to the ground. Time stretched as I visually followed the object's gravitationally predetermined path. The moment that I thought would be somewhat easy to capture turned around and prevented me from documenting it except through my words and the following picture I snapped after it landed.

I laughed aloud at the event and told Sarah and others what happened. I feel fortunate that, although I didn't get the photo that I originally desired, the mere falling of that apple from its tree left a picture in my mind that is among the most vivid of my life. Moreover, it also paints a picture of a playful Mother Nature that said to me, "Now, isn't this even better than just seeing it hanging lonely in that tree? You won't forget this," and then proceeded to float away on a breeze similar to the one that etched a beautiful image in my mind.
