Snowed in
Well, we weren't quite snowed in. I woke up this morning like most other mornings by spiraling my way down my stairs and into the bathroom for a shower. Once done there I headed back up to my room to put my clothes on for the day. I then head back downstairs for breakfast. THAT'S when I noticed something through one of the small windows in my attic-like living quarters about and inch-and-a-half of something. White something. Snow! I grabbed my digital camera and snatched a couple pre-dawn shots of the dusting we received here in Parkland this morning.
My normally slow pace of eating was shelved as I wolfed down my cheerios and other breakfast food. With forty minutes to spare before work I woke Sarah up and convinced her to come with me downstairs. With the light of the morning now outside she (on her first trip past a window) saw the snow. We spent the next half hour outside in the frigid weather. She packed snowballs and tossed them at me while I snap picture after picture with my digital camera. Once I was satisfied with that I put the camera down and packed some snowballs with her name on them myself. It was a lovely scene to wake up to and, although it didn't last, was a nice touch at the end of this moderate Winter.
After class today I headed back up to the Multimedia Lab for work and my friend Kristin went back home to accompany Sarah on a very special trip. Today Sarah got her new kitty. She brought him home and immediately began to acclimate him to his new living conditions. She also gave him a name. Long lists of possible identifications for the 7-month-old were suggested by Sarah's housemates, boyfriend, and family. Being her cat, Sarah obviously had the final say in how he would be known to everyone. And, as if from out of the blue, she named him Colby. So Colby it is and she couldn't be happier welcoming the new joy into her rental household. I have a feeling that Colby is going to be one very spoiled kitty.
