A few pit stops
I have a brother. He's a great guy that is always looking for a project. The symbiotic relationship that comes with having siblings is such that when the older has little or no use for an item in his/her possession he/she should offer it as a 2nd-hand gift to the younger sibling. With few exceptions this has been the case with Joseph and I. Today was no different.
This morning Sarah, my dad and I drove into town to Joseph's abode for some car-related hand-me-downs. First, the wheels. Seemingly prepped for a stock car racer heading into the pits my brother laid out equipment and wheels prior to our arriving. The gap he left between them was enough to pull my car up into and, no sooner than I did so, he begun to jack it up and swap my stock steel wheels with his WRX's stock alloy wheels. That's hand-me-down #1.
Hand-me-down #3: the tunes. My Impreza wagon came stock with a CD player which sounded good considering I've never owned such a quiet car which makes such a stereo useful. Well, my brother decided he'd offer me his WRX's stock 6-disc in-dash CD changer. Sure! So he and my dad examined my car's dash area and conducted the required surgery with precision. After a brief reversion back to the old deck (to removed a stranded CD) they screwed everything in place, tested her out, and sewed her back up. I now have a CD playing beast which seemingly has a hunger for multiple CDs -- or at least that's what it looks like when I feed it six discs.
My mom joined us just in time for lunch and our afternoon trip to Troutdale, OR and its lovely layout of outlet stores. First we made a brief stop at a computer store to replace some parts of my brother's machine that were damaged. Although only his motherboard was effected he decided he'd step things up a notch by purchasing a new motherboard and Pentium 4 CPU. This left me with hand-me-down #3: a like-new AMD Athlon 1.4ghz CPU. With this in-hand I impulsively laid down some funds to get myself a new motherboard and some RAM to compliment the free CPU.
Rarely prompted to purchase new clothes I usually rely on holliday gifts to stock my wardrobe. Today was different, however, because I left the Troutdale Outlet Mall Plaza Shopping Center Pavilion with a few bags filled with a fresh pair of jeans, some new cargo shorts for the sunny months, three button-down t-shirts, and some new traction-enhanced Totes socks (great for hardwood floors). Once pooped from shopping we picked up grandma and headed back out to the ranch for some quality steak for our psuedo-Easter (since we're all together and I wouldn't be back for the real Easter) dinner and then again back into town to watch a Anime film with Sarah and my bro.
So I suppose the point of this entry is to urge against parenting only children for whom the benefits of hand-me-downs are never realized.
