Transactions and Atomic Operations

Just a brief note on my work at work: when you're browsing through online documentation for a system you manage and use, you know you're in deep when you read a section titled

Transactions and Atomic Operations

Although I'm a web developer at heart I'm becoming more and more of a programmer every day. It's snuck up on me like a cruel friend coming from behind and I'm not sure how my life will change if I'm ever to be considered a "programmer". Will my glasses thicken? Will my pants hike up past my bellybutton? Will whatever's left of my social skills shrivel into decay? Signs point to "no" to all of these questions because I have a few close friends who are Computer Science degreed programmers that lead relatively normal lives. Perhaps my becoming more of an insider into this world of telling computers what to do blurs my vision of my programmer friends but I'd like to think that we remain as outsiders when compared to the stereotypical hoard of grunting nerds. Maybe having girlfriends help and perhaps our interest in the outdoors or music keeps us separate. I'm not sure how we should be catagorized but I can see that I'm already doing it and placing myself into a catagory by referring to myself and my programming friends as "we".
