Intel endowed
Today my housemate and friend Gavin grew a new limb. Since his graduation from PLU over a year ago, our hero stepped out into the real world which is currently lead by a pointless dictator driving the economy and our international relationships into the poop hole. Gavin constantly saught to achieve gainful employment even during a five month period where he survived paying his rent and other bills on around $2,000. He's resourceful, if nothing else! One day around last November he came upon a tech repair, etc. type of job at our local CompUSA and he took it. "At least it's not sales," he repeated to himself.
Since that time, Gavin has continued his career search in waves. Some weeks he's beaten down by his schedule and his current job and some weeks he's possessed with the drive to get himself into a better position. Today his latest wave of job hunting led him to an interview at a local giant -- Intel.
His CompUSA job takes him to work at 1pm in the afternoons and gives him a weekend on Sunday and Monday -- not too easy to coordinate with friends and a fiance with typical 9-5 schedules. This morning Gav awoke just after my 6am shower to prepare himself for his 8am interview at the Intel campus in DuPont, WA. I headed for work and heard back from our hero just after 9:30am. The man on the other end of the phone line sounded truly pleased with his interview and probably wasn't expecting, partially due to the fact that he'd previously received few job leads, to get the call he got around noon.
Sarah called me and relayed that Gavin was on the phone at the same time as she and was giving her some excited gestures (thumbs up, repeating what his caller was saying, etc.). I soon called our hero back and confirmed that everyone was impressed with him and that they wanted to offer him the 1-year contract position he saught.
Gavin glowed as he lightly stepped through the door to our house after coming home from CompUSA after letting everyone know that in two weeks time, he will be gainfully employed at Intel.
Congratulations, my friend. You deserve this!
