Neighborhood to the north
After a view full train ride north I made it to Vancouver B.C. for a conference for work. The train from Seattle was a great ride and I had plenty of stretching room with no one seated next to me. There was a Brady Bunch-like family just ahead of me in the car wherein two families of three children each got together. Three boys and three girls and all from Minnesota with a slight mid-West accent. They didn't cause any annoyance but did have some intresting family dynamics that I couldn't help but overhear. Unfortunately for my camera wielding tendency, I wasn't on the water side of the train and so missed photographing the multiple bald eagles that flew up from a tideflat area and flew for a few seconds directly outside the train window! Beautiful nonetheless.
Once in B.C. I went through the scrutiny of customs and found a way to get some cash. Two machines in the train station were of no help so I hiked toward my bus and found a bank where my debit card worked just fine. From there I needed something in my stomach and so got some coffee and some sort of sausage roll thing. Whatever. I was hungry. Hopped on a bus that took me strait to the U.B.C. campus and spent the rest of the day chilling a bit and visiting the campus botanical gardens with my co-worker J.D.
This is a stunning area and huge campus but am looking forward to meeting more NMC folks and taking in the conference sessions.

On the Sounder
Too bad I don't actually need this train for my normal commute. I just shoved off from Tacoma and, maybe it's just the early train, but so far I'm the only one in my car. Hopefully, for the sake of the service, more folks will be getting on at other stops. Not much of a view right now as I seem to be passing through the ass end of Tacoma. Once in Seattle I'll hop on the Amtrak to head for Vancouver B.C.
This entry is also a proof-of-concept for my ramblings during my road trip to Mojave to see the private, manned space launch. Seems to work.
