Kickball and other birthday activities
My buddy Gavin's birthday was this week and, to celebrate, his wife Holly rounded up some family and friends today to celebrate. We all met in a lush road-side park near the town of Auburn along the Green River. I met a few of Gavin's co-workers from Boeing and chatted it up with Gavin, Holly and their parents. We had a great picnic lunch of sub sandwiches, chips and fruit followed up by an anglefood birthday cake made most masterfully by Gavin's mom.
It was a beautiful afternoon for a party with ample sunshine and a slight breeze to keep us cool under the broken shade of the trees above. The calm, mostly mature party then gave way to something always swirling around in the back of our minds as if some primal instinct beconing us from the past -- kickball! Apparently inspired by her father's east coast trips wherein he learned of the numerous kickball teams over there, one of Gav's co-workers brought a large, orange kickball -- and now the party began! ;)
"It's like baseball," we told one of the Norwegian fellows in the group. "I've never played baseball," he replied. Despite a definite lack of experience and a few rusty hinges, we divided into two teams of five and took to the field for a few innings. My team pushed ahead to an early lead but errors and an injury soon had us wishing for an east coast kickball champion or two to grace our presence. No matter, though, since we had a great time of it and, sooner than we knew it, were all leaving the party.
Thanks for the good times everyone and Happy Birthday Gavin! You're only getting older so don't forget to play as much kickball, paintball, and Unreal while you still can!

Hey Britta! I'll be down there with Sarah and our friend's place just near the Heights to watch the show. Turner is going to stay in West Seattle with his girlfriend Kelly to have a party and watch some fireworks from there. Shoot me an email at freitaka@blarg.net sometime and we can catch up. Cheers!
