A trip to the [funky] library

After a bit of milling around this morning Sarah and I drove up to Seattle so I could meet with an associate of mine in the freelance web business at the new Seattle Public Library. It's a monstrous glass and metal structure that seems to have landed on 5th and Spring St. in Seattle like some alien mothership. It's really a stunning structure that I recommend bussing, biking or walking to since the parking costs $16 after two hours -- which isn't enough time to take it all in. I had only a hand full of minutes before my meeting so Sarah gladly enjoyed taking some shots with my camera -- that is before she left the library to wander around downtown Seattle.

My favorite feature of the library is the wide open "Living Room" on the 3rd floor with tables and comfortable that lent themselves nicely for collaborative work. I also liked the staff that sat perched on high chairs in the middle of seemingly no where just waiting for patrons to ask questions and point them in the direction of the person who validates parking (if the only one, not a pleasent woman, she was). It's really a bit more like a modern museum experience with lots of signage and graphics to guide, confuse and keep any visitors company. I'll have to go back sometime and attempt to utilize it as an actual library rather than a huge work of modern architectural art.
