Gettin' high off beads
A freak discovery today yielded a trip to what is touted as the largest bead store on the planet. Shipwreck Beads is on the edge of a commercial building complex in greater-suburbia just outside of Lacey between Olympia and Tacoma, WA. We drove there this afternoon to indulge my visiting sister's love of crafting with beads and, once we found the place, were nothing but amazed. The Costco-sized facility is floor to ceiling beads of any shape, material, color, size and price and, like Costco, patrons can buy their treasure in bulk. Toni chatted with a sales associate who told her of people that fly from Japan just to shop for beads at Shipwreck! Yes, this is a serious business, folks, and one that seems to be a gem of a store in this part of the world.
After nearly forgetting to each lunch we cruised back to Tacoma after dinner time and quenched our hunger with a pile of food from It's Greek to Me just down the street from our house. The trouble with hanging out with relatives is there's no activity quite like eating. It truly seems to dominate the landscape.
