Freedom wipes and extended birthday activities

Sarah and I braved the region of the active volcano this morning and headed out for the Vancouver area to spend some time with family partially to celebrate my birthday and partially just to hang out. After a smooth drive we all headed into town from La Center to enjoy lunch at a Tony Roma's near the Vancouver Mall. We yakked about this and that and not only enjoyed the messy food but also the silly moist towelette given out. These little wonders serve an important purpose to cleanse the filthy digits of meat eaters at these restaurants across the nation. As my parents pointed out, however, they didn't used to be packaged in a pouch with an U.S. flag printed on it. Somewhat cynical about our nation's actions of late, my dad laughed and dubbed them "Freedom Wipes".

After lunch Sarah hung out with her mom and sister while my parents took me out for a surprise shopping trip to the Pendleton Woolen Mill to re-purchase a wool, Scottish-looking hat I lost earlier this year. They were also nice enough to buy me a great pair of corduroy pants and a slick tope-colored wool dress shirt. Thanks for the gifts mom and dad! My parents headed back home and I hung around with Sarah in Vancouver to pay a visit to exchange gifts with Mandy then enjoy dinner and some volcano watching with Sarah's mom and sister.

At home tonight we found my dad watching a rerun of a premiere of a modern Gilligan's Island and Lord of the Flies drama called Lost. Seems like it could be a fun show with some mystery and strangeness that includes these castaways finding a polar bear sharing their tropical island with them. Eh, we'll see. One thing I don't need is another TV show to watch.
