Gaming the '80s and '90s
After a triumphant afternoon yesterday spent arm wrestling our newly modded Xbox I was finally able to bring it to the point where tonight we could enjoy playing old Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo games. Good thing Mandy came a knockin' so we could really give this bad boy a test run! Since the city of Vancouver made her take a half day off Mandy drove up to hang out with Sarah and I for the evening. We made pizza with Sarah's dough she kneaded in our new mixer and played the rest of the night away in Genesis and Super Nintendo land. While Sarah taught her student's clarinet lesson Mandy and I stayed here and schooled some goomba and rode a yoshi or two in Super Mario Land. I remember playing that game back in middle school when I spent the night at my buddy Tim's place. Sometimes I'd even bring my Genesis over and we'd play games until we couldn't see straight (I guess that explains the glasses that came later in high school). Although PC games like UT2004 and Half-Life 2 and Xbox games like GTA: Vice City and Prince of Persia are great fun it's really nice to regress just a bit and play some games that come from a simpler time -- technologically speaking anyway. Sarah and Mandy also duked it out on Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and became nearly hysterical with laughter when they had to play the 3D pipe level and try to avoid those stupid mines that are intermixed with precious rings. I guess it brought back some memories from when they used to play as well -- I'm surprised they even survived back then. The competition is pretty intense there!
Anyway, at some point we'll have to host a classic gaming party where only consoles and simple PC games like Revolt are allowed.
