Happy [bloody] New Year!

Sarah and I woke up rather late today after just barely making it to midnight last night (man, we are getting old). We had big plans for last night to stay in a eat 'til we couldn't eat anymore. The menu was for cheese fondue with fresh sliced apples and warm French bread, grilled meat and vegetable kabobs, and blackberry margaritas (thanks Jennifer!) to top things off. Well, we only made it through the fondue before we got full so we bypassed the kabobs and, after letting our stomach's settle, went straight for the margaritas.

Now, even though I barely even drink in the first place Sarah put me in charge of making the margaritas. I did a fine job up until the point where I had to strain the pulp from the thoroughly chopped frozen blackberries. Didn't really have an ingenious way to forces the thick pulp through a screen so I just decided to toss it all in together, blackberry chunks and all. It's like a blackberry margarita smoothie -- yeah, that's the ticket! It tasted pretty good (albeit a bit strong on the tequila side of things) but what came this morning was a complete shock...

I walked into the kitchen and saw only the red stain of what could only be blood flowing across the checkerboard floor. Spatters pointed to a source on the counter as the red liquid slowly trickled downward seeking to lowest point in the kitchen. Lying punctured on the counter top was, none other than, the formerly frozen bag of blackberries I had mistakenly left out the night before. It warmed and leaked its blood red juices onto the counter then the floor. Just imagine the flash that went through Sarah's head when she saw me knelt over on the floor wiping it up!

Anyway, the rest of the day was pretty tame by comparison. We went over to the local Ross to search for some new pants to replace a couple ratty pairs I currently own but found nothing as a swarm of locusts had descended upon the men's portion (very small portion, mind you) of the store and made off with every somewhat normal sizes of pants. We also made use of our kabob making materials and enjoyed a great dinner of it while watching a couples episodes of Futurama on my computer.

Here's to a Happy New Year for everyone. May your have many bountiful returns (whatever that means) and that you stay safe. Cheers!

Oh Boy, now there is a Happy Bloody New Year :-)

I am glad you all liked the Blackberry Margaritas even though they created some drama.

I guess Kevin might want to try waiting until summer and use fresh blackberries, we can't trust him with the frozen kind.

I hope it didn't stain anything or you might have a New Years 2005 reminder for quite some time.

You know come to think about it, the Blackberry Margarita recipe does not say how to stain those blackberries. I have this little hand held strainer that is suppose to be used for juicing things. It works wonders for blackberry juice.

I might know what you guys are getting for your wedding ;-)
