Call me Mr. Productivity
Happy Mother's Day! Well, to all the wonderful moms in my life (Kathy and Sherry to be precise) thanks for all you have done for your children over the years. I hope you both have a fantastic day. And to Sarah: she may not have children but she has a sometimes childish husband and two attention-hogging kitties. Although she didn't give bearth to any of us ('cause that'd be seriously weird) she at least deserves an "A" for effort.
On to my day. Sarah and I actually woke up reasonably early this morning and got a good jump start on our day. First up was our first pancake breakfast cooked stove-top on our new appliance. Next were a couple tasks. I stayed at home and sprayed fertilizer on the lawn while Sarah hit the grocery store. After my chore was done I headed upstairs to our office and spent some quality time finishing the unpacking in those parts. One more room down! We moved on to the living room where I helped Sarah mount some rods for the new drapes she picked up while down in Portland/Vancouver last weekend. With a pencil hanging from between my hat and head, a drill in my hand, and a measuring tape at my waist Sarah said I looked quite the handyman. Little did she know that I had no idea what I was doing! Despite that, the rods came together nicely and I let her finish working on putting up the drapes while I headed off to knock off some freelance. We even did what is likely our second-to-last trip over to the old house to grab a couple lingering items and do a quick sweep of the floors. It wasn't until about 10:20pm tonight that I realized I had left my camera sitting on the kitchen counter over there. I love late night drives to a place I don't live but left something at which I'm sure freaked out the upstairs tenants since they know no one's living there yet there are noises coming from below at 10:30 at night. Oh, well... I gotta have my camera! Anyway, just before it got dark I also took my set of three solar-powered flood lights outside to set them up on the path leading to our front door.
We still have a few tasks yet to complete but here's the list of major items we've completed so far since moving in:
- hardwood floors refinished
- minor remodeling of kitchen to make room for the fridge and stove
- storage shelves installed in kitchen pantry and hallway closet
- new gas lines run for clothes dryer and oven
- blinds on six windows installed
- lawn mowed and fertilized
- dishwasher setup
- new drapes hung
- wireless switched on
- kitchen cart/island ordered
Whew! We've been busy bees. You can guess that a few items above weren't done by us but, nonetheless, those things still take time usually because we had to be present while they happened. Thanks to flexible work schedules on both our parts for that and thanks to Sarah for being just demanding enough that we make progress to finally feeling completely moved in. I couldn't do it without her.
