A new light in our lives
My parents drove up from Vancouver today to see the progress we've made on our new house and to spend some time with us. Since my mom hadn't seen the place but from peeping through the windows before we bought it, we thought we'd show her around. I think she likes it. As I mentioned yesterday I had a little trouble installing a new light in our master bedroom but today my dad brought up the right tools to get the job done. This advice is for all the guys out there searching Google that need to know how to extract a screw you've twisted the head off of and don't want to destroy the place it's drilled: dig or drill around the screw until you can get a hold of it with strong needle nose pliers or vice grips and twist it out. Most solutions I found online involved a hollow-tipped drill bit that simply bores out everything around the stuck screw and destroys any chance of ever using that spot again. In my case, I needed to use the drum in the ceiling that was already there from a previous light so I wouldn't have to replace it. ANYway, we got it out and later today I got the light installed.
We sat around with my parents and chatted it up here for a while before lunch then headed out to try our hand at finding someplace open on this Memorial holiday weekend. Not much (except the locally famous Knapps) was open in nearby Proctor so we headed down to the always-tasty Harmon Brewery and had some of their famous parmesan garlic fries (cue Homer drooling sound). After that we headed back up the hill to Proctor and spent a couple minutes in a pet and wild bird supply store before my parents took off. We had a great afternoon with them. I can't wait until Sarah's wish that Star Trek-like transporters comes true so we can easily spend more time with them. I suppose I can't complain, though, since Tacoma's certainly closer than a lot of places.

And we are glad you don't live too far away too, like Scotland, for instance!!!! Love the house--it is perfect for you both.

I wasn't going to name countries, but yeah, it's definitely closer than that. I suppose phone and email can help bridge those gaps though, too. It's also nice when distant relatives post photos on a website for people to see. ;) I'll leave you alone now, Toni and David. Love ya!

I wished I lived closer as well. Too bad I've fallen in love with the quaint town of Bend.
As a side note: maybe we could teach your sister the magic of blogging... Perhaps it would be easier for her to post entries and pictures??
OR... we could just catch a flight back to the UK. Whadda you say? :)

Well, it seems my online ears should have been burning! What my darling brother has left out of his entry, is that David did indeed email him quite a while ago for the forgotten login and password (David needs simple passwords, we're not too worried about people hacking our site and posting porn...) and that someone with the initials of KAF disnae ever respond to emails! David being the polite, soft-spoken type, didn't want to badger his brother-in-law. So cough up the password, and we'll post more pictures than your server can handle!
And if you want me to become a blogger (which I'm pretty sure is an insult word here), then hook me up, I'm game!
Love from afar to you all, and the futon is always available for short or long-term stays!

Hi, I like the pictures. I had a question about the cittra lamp. Would it be an adequate source of lighting if it was the only lamp in the room?

Brandon: It depends on the size of the room -- I'd say no unless it's around 10'x10' or is something like an entertainment room where you only want light as an accent and hope to avoid glare on a TV screen. They do put of a pretty good amout of light especially if you have light-color walls you bounce things off from.
Hope this helps!
