Beginnings and endings

Don't worry, this entry isn't nearly as depressing as it sounds like it could be. These are all good things, people! Today marks the beginning of the end of my "era" (as Sarah called it) at PLU. My last day as webmaster (or webmonger, as I prefer it) is this Friday and I will certainly miss it. Things are timed such that I begin my new job on the 15th, five years to the day since I started as an employee with PLU. I've worked and been around PLU longer than that since I began classes and was a student worker there in the fall of 1997. When I took my full-time staff position in 2000 I knew it was a great opportunity but I don't think I knew how valuable the professional and personal experiences I had would really mold me into the employee/person that I am. An early thanks to everyone (students, staff, faculty and administrators) I've worked with and a special thanks to my supervisor Layne. Ever and advocate he set an example of always focusing on the quality of our services and products and always treating patrons and piers with the utmost of respect.

Also in the new beginnings category, Sarah, Gavin, Holly and I just began to lay our plans for some late-September travel to New York. Ever since visiting with PLU's Vocal Jazz Ensemble a couple years ago I've wanted to go back and take other people with me. Our goal is to only take a long weekend and to make sure to avoid trying to see it all since there's just too much and it's far too big. We'll stay at a nice hotel, enjoy a show, and probably get a stiff neck from gazing up at the massive and tall buildings.

I'm sure the transition will go smoothly to the new position. You are now in the catagory of EXPERIENCED. It will open many more doors. Best of luck in the coming weeks! Although, you don't need luck. You've got the goods.

Good luck with your transition, I know you will wow them. I wish we were meeting you in NYC, but you need to give us more than 1 months notice! (not that you were inviting us anyway, but I won't be offended...) Will try and call this weekend to catch up. i know, i know, i keep saying that, but i mean it this time!

Hmmm... NY is close to Boston... You should let me know when you guys are planning to be there. I might already be going over for the weekend, and would love to see you all. Hope things are well.

Anna: Nope, I actually haven't mentioned it on here yet. I have a job at a webdev company in downtown Tacoma. Should be a great environment and I'll be pretty close to Sarah for joint lunches and such.

Wendy: The night of Sep. 22 through 25. Got a cell? Email me at kevin /at kevinfreitas /dot net

Well, I'll be honest: we're sad to see you leave. Mainly because you know how to do EVERYTHING and won't be around to save me from embarassing myself by my lack of l33tness. You were an amazing supervisor. I won't get all teary-eyed, 'cuz I know I'll see ya around.
