A plethora of Saturday fun
I headed over to our new office to help move in our furniture and equipment. The job went fast with the help of three others from our company. I had a camera workshop/class at the place I bought my new Canon and we finished our moving early enough that I wandered around the Museum of Glass and the nearby Thea Foss Waterway to take some photos in the somewhat clear weather since it's suppose to get rather stormy later. The camera class was decent but a bit long. The Canon rep was a bit disorganized with his teaching and didn't really dive deep into anything except camera settings. Both he and an Abolins employee touched on composition but didn't really have us try some things out. The Canon rep also showed off a nice printer but didn't seem to know his way most efficiently around the software which seemed (rightly so) to confuse some of the older folks in the group. Besides, how many of us really need a 13x19", borderless, 8 ink reservoir printer? I'd print one, maybe two per year else my walls would be plastered with photos.
Anyway, after this Sarah and I met up with a friend to talk about possibly doing a website for a gentleman running for a city council seat in Tukwila. We came down to the fact that 1) it was too late in the election cycle to promote a website and 2) there probably aren't enough interested voters in the area to justify the cost. Their money is better spent getting out and knocking on people's doors.
After that brief meet up Sarah and I headed over to a house on nearby 30th Street to tour their new solar panel setup. It was really impressive considering the cost versus ease of integration. The inverter that takes in power from the solar panels feeds directly to the main power grid and simply gets used when it's producing. Since this array won't be producing enough to run their entire house, it effectively acts as a discount and helps run their main meter slower. There are also many current and up-incoming benefits and subsities that bring the cost of such a system down significantly. For the system in this place it was about $12K installed, not including any city and government discounts. I think in a year or two Sarah and I will be seriously looking to do something like this for our place. I'm just waiting for solar cells that can gather infrared light as well as visible light to increase their effeciency. We'll do plenty of research so stay tuned.
From here we met up with another friend and saw Flightplan starring Jodie Foster. It was a good thriller with some interesting camera angles. It kept me guessing and didn't take any cheap suprise shots at scaring me. I think some of it was pretty understated, however, and didn't have quite as much edge as I thought it could. It's worth a look anyway, especially later on DVD.
Whew! That was a busy day but a pretty easy one to manage. Tonight we just vegged out -- Sarah playing some Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and me playing a little Day of Defeat: Source. Yeah, such nerds.
