Holiday cocktail pre-tasting party
After our plans changed for my brother's wedding tomorrow Sarah and I were pretty bummed we'd miss the Ferguson's annual holiday party. This years theme? A vintage Christmas cocktail party! They were both nice enough, however, to have us over tonight to do a little tasting of the drink menu to help make certain everything would come out right. Consider this as us doing our part to pitch in so our friends would have a successful party. Yeah, that works.
We went through a wonderful menu of holiday-themed drinks from the Grinchtini to my own, non-alcoholic invention the dirty snowball (3/4 hot chocolate, 1/4 egg nog, top with whip creme and/or marshmellow and add chocolate sprinkles). Since I was the designated driver I only had a few small tastes but Sarah enjoyed around a dozen divided up samples of drinks on the menu. We tweaked some of the portions and had a great time chatting and enjoying a little holiday spirit[s] with some great friends. Here's to hoping their party goes off without a hitch! We wish we could be there.

It's snowing fog
Just wanted to chime in with a note to anyone out there interested in up-to-date weather related blogging from Tacoma. It's snowing fog. Yeah, it's well under freezing out there yet it's really quite foggy. The drive in to work was a big slow because (thankfully) everyone was just crawling along. My journey takes me down a couple hundred foot hill then on a freeway bypass of downtown Tacoma that's mostly built off the ground. Both places were dicey enough that we all took it pretty slowly. It was hard to tell whether the white was frost or if more substantial black ice was on the road surface. I only saw one car briefly lose control when the went to make a left in a less-used turn lane. They skidded only a few feet and ended up slightly wonky before stopping.
At any rate, a few minutes ago a mist of ice was gracefully falling and now the parking lot here at work is dusted with a fine white powder/frost. Weird. Hopefully this won't get in the way of getting down to my brother's wedding in Portland tomorrow. I guess we'll leave extra early in the morning.
