Giving gifts? What a novel idea!

Last night Sarah and I got on the topic of our upcoming anniversary (see our wedding). We already have plans to enjoy some time out at the beautiful Salish Lodge but hadn't thought about gifts yet. I only brought it up because we gave ourselves a hard time over a distinct lack of gift giving over Christmas. Although I'm pretty sure we both feel comfortable and have more than we need, it's definitely fun to surprise someone with a thoughtful or out-of-the-blue gift. Over the holidays we just didn't have ample time to think about what to get for one another between planning for a housewarming and Christmas day itself. It's no excuse but neither of us have to feel bad because neither of us got a gift for the other.

So, for our anniversary I thought we would outwardly state the intention to give gifts, set an upper limit on cost, and see what happens. I have a couple ideas for Sarah but, although she always comes up with great ideas, she seems to think she has none. Will I be required to create an Amazon wishlist for her to cue off of? Even if I do, I'm looking forward to surprising her with something special. More than the gift, it's the spirit in which the gift is chosen and given that makes it all worth while.

Gift giving smackdown

Yeah, so when I emoted about the whole gift giving thing ealier today I seemed to forget what happens to Sarah when presented with a challenge. She wins. When I mentioned planning to give gifts to one another for our 1st anniversary she was worried that the pressure combined with a general sense that she doesn't know what I'd like would cripple her for the next two weeks. Not so. She taunted me with a bunch of IMs this morning which she ended with "What was our limit again? Sweet. I'm all done." Huh?

So, yeah, she kicked my butt off the gift giving line and now I'm left trailing behind. I have a couple ideas but need to take some offline time to look into them. I guess I should be thankful I have a woman who knows how to get things done. It's a good influence on me since I can be a bit of a lax slob from time to time.

Next time, buy her a bunch of cool flowers...nothing is better than that.
