XL choke

Being the fairweather fan that I am, I can easily revert to my common mantra that all Northwest teams choke when they're near glory. Today, the Seahawks only helped cement that idea in my mind. If I were to get signatures to put a referendum on the Washington ballot it would be to sell of all professional sports teams (except the womens' ones -- they deserve a chance) and sink that money into education. What do you think? I mean, Oregon's done one thing right and that's avoid most major professional sports (Blazers lost my love back in elementary school) like the plague. I think, just like their assisted suicide laws (which some Seahawks fans could probably use right now) we mimic them and do away with our teams and focus on other avenues of life. Heck, why not start up a really well-funded hockey team and go pounce on some Canucks.

The Seahawks did make it to the Super Bowl for the first time and I was genuinely hoping they'd win. Unfortunately, so much like the Blazers and Mariners before them, errors completely botched it from them and they just simply couldn't handle the pressure. We did, however, have a great time over at Angela and Steve's watching the game and trying to find a decent commercial or two between agonizing chunks of gameplay. My favorite is the FedEx commercial with the cavemen and dinosaurs. Good, cartoon-ish fun. That's about it though. I'm really glad I didn't watch the game just for that 'cause I would've been sorely dissappointed. Gone are the days of the e-trade monkey dancing just to burn money (you can thank Bush's economy for that) which I so dearly enjoyed. Between that and the safety taken since Janet's wardrobe malfunction, there's little fun left in the Super Bowl.

Anyway, let this be a lesson to this region. Stop cutting music and art programs in our public school in favor of sports -- it's only amounting to a lot of dissappointed children who actually think we have a chance to take those skills and propel a Northwest team to any kind of glory. Besides, if someone misses a note in a band, it doesn't put a stop to the entire concert. Moreover, no one probably heard the flub anyway. Now that's teamwork.

Well now, just a minute. How about we have a graduate program in officiating so the Seahawks would at least have a fighting chance the next time they make it to the Super Bowl?

Very, very true. They were pretty much playing against four teams: themselves, the refs, the TV networks, and the Steelers. Anyone else notice the black and white "profile" commercials? Yeah, there were four featuring Steelers, one that was mixed Steelers/Seahawks during the half, and only one completely Seahawks commercial. Also, the ABC logos at the bottom of the screen were suspiciously Steelers black and yellow. Heartbreaking game.

A co-worker pointed out a poll I just posted (http://www.kevinfreitas.net/journalPicView.php?date=2006-02-05&item=02) from ESPN.com asking if the refs' mistakes changed the outcome of the game. Good to see most of the rest of the nation and world is with us.

We noticed those spots were heavily Steeler-oriented too. In one towards the end of the game they did show one Seahawk amidst several Steelers, but I never saw one that was all Seahawks. It makes us sound like sore losers, which I may be, but it was pretty obvious.

Most of you may not have realized this but all during the game the ABC background logo and colors was Blacn & Gold! Reading some other sports comments about the game, it's a wonder the Hawks ever stood a fighting chance. The ref's were horrible! Plain and simple. I'm not saying they still would of won but they would of had at least 2 more touchdowns under their belts if the ref's didn't Suc_! I'm still mad.
