Review ~ Sushi at Kabuki Japanese restaurant in Tacoma

After a solid day at work Sarah and I got together with a couple friends and co-workers to bid two of them farewell before moving back to Georgia. We all headed out to have sushi at a local Japanese restaurant. We darted in from the rain and found ourselves in a very comfortable and authentic setting at Kabuki. This place is a welcome oasis in an area where patrons of the Tacoma Mall and various other strip malls and plazas abound. Sarah and I arrived first and were seated in a relatively private side room where we took off our shoes and sat cross-legged on the floor at our table. Once everyone else arrived we placed our orders and had little idea what to expect as far as quality and quantity of the food. So far the service was very attentive and friendly. Once the food began to arrive we were certain we'd made a solid choice.

The sake was warm and to my liking as was the miso soup and soy beans brought to us. Sarah ordered a plate of gyoza that was slightly crisp on the outside and warm and tasty on the inside. Once everyone's main course arrived we were stunned at the size of the plates. The menu wasn't clearly labelled but to our advantage as each order of sushi rolls came with eight rolls that were pretty generously sized. The individual sushi pieces were also impressively sized and, thankfully, everything was fresh and tasted great. The spicy tuna rolls were my hands-down favorites with just the right amount of spice to make them fun.

We all ate, talked and had a great time at Kabuki. Although the menu isn't as sushi-focused as we found upon visiting Ototo in Seattle we feel confident we could easily bring other friends that aren't so adventurous as to try sushi but still enjoy some better-than-normal teriyaki. Since Sarah seemingly daily craves the stuff and I'm not far behind, I'd give Tacoma's Kabuki a rating of "a couple times a month" for sure. Thanks to Andy and Sarah for the suggestion and good luck to them in their move to Georgia and whatever may come upon their arrival. Cheers!

Oh, and get to bed, young lady! I know it's later where ever the heck you are. ;)
