Photos ~ Tacoma JDRF walk in Point Defiance Park
Avoiding getting a little extra sleep on the weekends is only an option when it's for charity. We got up today to take part in a walk to help fund research into juvenile diabetes research. We avoided a yellow school bus shuttle and instead parked in a lot right down by the water and Anthony's restaurant. The morning was chilly and our walk along the seawall to Owen's Beach park was only a slight warm up considering I didn't bring a jacket. At the park there were tents of event sponsors and a great crowd of people all there to support the cause of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or JDRF.
We checked in at the Davita booth, took a couple group photos, avoided the cheesy group stretch and warm up, then were off! Once we crossed under that balloon arch we hit the large hill leading away from the beach and up towards the main portion of Point Defiance Park. The walk was along the 5-mile drive and was great. With the weather cool it was easy to stay comfortable and enjoy the company of a few other friends that were along for the cause.
Thanks to the organizers for making this charitable event fun and to JDRF for being a cause to bring us together to help others.
