"Hello, Washington" billboard mystery solved
Faithful reader and friend of KevinFreitas.net Angela (of the Fergusons) was the first to spot the answer to my query about those "Hello, Washington" billboards seen around town. It's an insurance company. American Family Insurance, to the specific. Lame. Although we were all prepped for something lame since our guesses were that a new bank or retail store was coming to our state it still would've been cool if it were something really worth while. I know, I know. If it were something really worth while they would have a) been given up by some kind of leak at some point; or b) not wasted their marketing budget tell people something that says absolutely nothing. But, in this case, I guess tell people nothing is just what they did. Anyway, welcome new insurance company. May you lower premiums everywhere and think of your customers and their well being first over the profits you make that dwarf the kind of cash normal mortal will ever see. Yeah, right.

Gee, Kevin, it sounds like maybe you're not a huge fan of the insurance industry!

Eh... I'm more not a big fan of hype. What big deal is it to have a fun, anonymous billboard if you're just another company looking to snag our money and control over our health and well being? Insurance is a necessary evil but we need more insurance like we need more lawyers. Plus, insurance companies seem to be more in the business of what they don't cover (no flood insurance in a flood zone, no earthquake insurance in an earthquake zone) than what they do.

I might overlook the bloated hype and give them a pass if they moved into dowtown Tacoma.
However, without that, they are only an (unwanted) billboard image.
The city council has ben trying to reduce the number of billboards over the years. I do not know if this is one that is supposed to be removed.

I would personally love to see fewer billboards around town. They are such a blight. Those and overhead power lines.

Amen to the power lines!

The more I deal with insurance agencies, the more insurance agencies get added to my list of "people I will never do business with again." (Actually "people" = "weasels" in this case).

Here, here. I can't believe Tacoma has allowed so many billboards to be up for so long, even in neighborhood districts.
Memo to Tacoma's branding consultants:
"Billboards don't help the cities image"

I currently have American Family Insurance and I love them.
And I am a really picky person.
