Digital photo tips workshop wrap-up

Thanks to James, Michael, Angela and Steve, and Joel for meeting up last Saturday for my digital photo tips class. With handouts handed out they I talked for about an hour dealing out digital photo tips and tricks I've learned over the years. Everyone joined in with questions and tips of their own which made for a really comfortable group. After all my yammering I set everyone out around the Chihuly Bridge of Glass to try out some of what I suggested and to have some fun. Everyone was trying what looked like some great shots and we all seemed to get plenty of pictures of one another taking pictures.

It was a beautiful day to be a tourist in our own town and I hope to offer up some other group photo outings in the near future. For now, here are my favorites from the day. I hope to add samples that others took, too. Thanks for coming everyone and I hope you had as good a time as I did!

An evening BBQ with friends

I enjoyed using our new BBQ so much since first using it last week that it was time to bust it out again tonight. We invited Angela and Steve (of the Fergusons) over to have some dinner and gaze a bit at the stars. After a pretty hot day in the area everything we enjoyed tonight was outside. Things did cool down a bit but stayed really mild the entire night. Once everyone was present and accounted for I fired up the grill and, as we all filled up on chips and dip, cooked us up some buffalo burgers and assorted brats and dogs. I messied myself up adding some seasoning and spice to the buffalo patties but they came out really tasty. We even got to indulge in some of the rainbow gelatin and whip creme stuff I used to get when younger.

We sat around and chatted it up while we awaited the arrival of the night, the stars and Jupiter. Once the skyward stage was set it was time to get out the 'scope. With a little bit of help from everyone we setup the telescope and I took the time to do some solid alignment so I could use the motor drive to avoid having to move the barrel of the 'scope every 30 seconds to keep what we were looking at in the eyepiece. Everything worked swimmingly and we enjoyed a crisp view of Jupiter with four Galilean moons (two on either side), a diamond blue double star system in the Big Dipper, as well as more yellow tinted Arcturus.

The company was so great tonight that we didn't realize just how toasty the day had been. Thanks for indulging our nerdy astronomical sides and we'll definitely do it again once the moon and something like Saturn is up.
