AOL member retention goatse graphic
Yeah, goatse parodies are big out there on teh Internets. Even seems that companies like AOL are getting into the act. In a member retention manual posted on Consumerist the last page has the following graphic:

Yeah, that's some serious goatse action, there. Thank you AOL for cluing us into your true intentions. "Sign up for AOL and take it right up the a$$!" The rest of the manual is pretty disturbing, too. With questions like "How did the Consultant use background noise to build rapport?" So, what -- pointless paper shuffling or loud keyboard typing is suppose to make the member feel that the Consultant is hard at work for us? Man. What an age we live in.

Four changes recommended around Pacific Plaza
The report from May's public spaces meeting is coming out tomorrow and the News Tribune has an interview with one of the consultants. She speaks well of Tacoma but, honestly, it's her job to make us feel good about the job they've done. Although I was very impressed with the Project for Public Spaces workshop it's their job to help us make our city better and they'll certainly be a cheerleader if their being paid to help us get better. The summary of recommendations is
- Finish Pacific Plaza (add bathrooms, trees, drinking fountains, benches)
- Narrow Pacific Avenue (this one's not going to be popular!)
- Identify public space management
- Allow street vendors to mix things up a bit
Seems like pretty straight-forward stuff. The narrowing of Pacific is meant to slow traffic down but is intended to encourage more pedestrian traffic and connections between one side of Pacific and the other. Once the final recommendation is released I'll post any digital copies here and have my thoughts.
