Joeseppi's makes you feel right at home

When I think of Pearl I don't often think much more than strip malls, the Y, and that it ends where Point Defiance begins. Food choices along this street are also pretty limited but relative new-comer Joeseppi's gets it right and gives me reason for hope in Westgate. More »

Real or fake? Tacoma SWAT bust fake robbery

Ran across the following video via an entry on the Tacoma LiveJournal group and find it pretty amusing. From the looks of it, an indie film crew was shooting a robbery scene in a local building when someone called the TPD. More »

Narrows bridge lights

Kathleen Merryman has an article in today's Trib about some informal local efforts to keep the new and old Narrows Bridges lit up. I had the pleasure of snapping some night photos of construction lights on the new bridge and they make for a stunning sight. More »

Bates video takedown and back story

Just got a call from someone at Bates requesting I take a video I recently linked to down because it's copyrighted material (and they "wouldn't want anyone getting in trouble for that"). Apparently, sounds like it was indeed an indie film shoot with all the proper permits shooting a robbery scene that actually had a real security guard or two on-site since weapons were present. Received via email: We have just been informed by the Tacoma Police Dept that State Route 509 is closed in both directions due to a fire at Manke Lumber [ map ] on the East side of the Tideflats. Traffic is backed up for miles, therefore, please make alternative plans for your route home if you normally travel SR 509. More »

Although I couldn't stick around for the duration of last night's City Council meeting they voted in favor of the AF Evans funding resolution. Have no fear, however, there is an inked deal to get the Winthrop in the hands of developers eyeing it's prospects as a hotel. More »

Anyone who attended last May's public spaces workshop knows that the topic of better pedestrian access around town would be great where possible. One glaring spot is at the entrance to the Bridge of Glass where a large, iron fence stands. More »
