509 closed due to fire at Manke Lumber

Received via email:

We have just been informed by the Tacoma Police Dept that State Route 509 is closed in both directions due to a fire at Manke Lumber [ map ] on the East side of the Tideflats. Traffic is backed up for miles, therefore, please make alternative plans for your route home if you normally travel SR 509.

Link to WSDOT I-5 webcam at the Tacoma Dome. Looks like they're zoomed in on something in the Tideflats but don't see anything going on.

Thanks Sarah!

Update (2006-09-14 @ 5:40pm)
I took a gander outside and couldn't see any smoke nor did 509 look particularly backed up from downtown Tacoma.

Prium's 'Porpoise Landing' project re-named

1933 at Dock StreetPrium Companies'/Homes' future condo project on the Foss known as Porpoise Landing in downtown Tacoma now has a new moniker. How's "Nineteen Thirty-Three at Dock Street" work for ya? Works for me. It's certainly a bit classier a name than "Porpoise Landing" and it sure makes a lot more sense than naming it after a creature that probably never graces the Foss waterway. I'm also pretty sure you have to spell it out every time to make the number seem that much more important. Like fancy restaurants that list prices that way and without price tags. Maybe the price sheets for condos in this development will list them as such:

Six Hundred Fifty Five Thousand

I could see it. So long funny name and hello never-forget-where-you're-at-because-it's-the-address name! Seems like the kinda' thing we were trying to do with naming the Plaza. Oh, well. At least someone understands calling when it's good to keep it simple.
