An old school, smelly cows, and homemade boats

That maybe how you view the big three events around here this weekend because of the chilly fall weather and noticably shorter days. But c'mon, we're from the Northwest -- we can handle a little sprinkle here and there!

The Puyallup Fair ~ Sep. 8-24
It's not the last weekend (man this thing goes on for a while!) but why not get out there when the crowds are slightly thinner? There's animals, rides, entertainment, and plenty of booths from which to buy a hot tub.

Celebrate Stadium ~ Sep. 16-18
Yes, that famous local castle of a high school is turning 100 and is just freshly re-opened from a makeover. Join with tons of Stadium alumnus in a football game in the bowl tonight (probably more people than you'll ever see there), fireworks, a concert featuring Blood, Sweat, and Tears, and open house like tours of the newly remodeled facility.

Maritime Fest ~ Sep. 15-17
Need a fix before the '08 Tall Ships come back? Head downtown along the waterfront on Dock St. and enjoy a chowder cook-off, train rides, quick and dirty boat building and racing contest, and dogs jumping into the water.

Have a great weekend out there and don't forget that trusty umbrella. Wait a minute, who am I kidding? Real locals don't need umbrellas! ;)

Two Koi quietly opens today

Sounds like folks waiting for more sushi downtown need wait no longer. It seems Two Koi just of the Plaza will open today. Here's the blurb:

Twokoi, a Japanese restaurant located in the historic Carlton Building at the corner of Commerce and Jefferson, is holding their soft opening and first day of operation today!

Doh! If I weren't hopping in the car after work and heading south out of town I'd SO be there. Someone tell me how it is 'cause I can't wait. I'm sure my wife will welcome this news, too. Rev up that sushi obsession engine, sweetie -- they're right down the block from your office!

Via Forward Tacoma. Thanks Erik!

Update (3:07pm)
Just had a chat with Mai-Lee Bowyer the GM over at Two Koi to get the scoop. She said that diners can stop (dinner will be about about 5-8pm all this weekend) to sample a discounted menu while their staff and chefs get everything down. The grand opening will be mid- to late October and will be an event with proceeds going to charity.

Looks like Sarah and I will be arranging our evening to stop by. Should be fun to try it out and lend them our feedback.
