Photos ~ Columbia River Gorge natural history bus tour

My mom invited me along on a Rotary fund raising bus tour of the Columbia River Gorge outside Portland. The tour was led by a former Geology professor from Clark College and the Glenn Lamb, Executive Director of the Columbia Land Trust. Both led our day with great insight into the area's geology and how the local ecology is and can be protect through the efforts of the trust.

We started out atop Rocky Butte in northeast Portland [ map ], headed east to the Sandy River [ map ], to the gateway of the Gorge at Crown Point [ map ], had lunch at Multnomah Falls [ map ], and out to the frige of the drier side of the Cascades to Hood River [ map ] and Rowena [ map ]. Thanks to our guides for a wonderful learning experience and for the great picture taking opportunities. I fully encourage anyone to volunteer to help with the various Columbia Land Trust or similar group's activities for they are actively helping to maintain some of the beautiful and ecologically important places before bulldozers have a chance to tear them apart.

Great pictures, Kevin. What a fun and interesting day. I will never look at the Gorge in the same way again.
