Wired Cafe now open downtown

Wired Cafe in downtown TacomaJust up the hill from the corner of 9th and Pacific you can now find a new stop for coffee and eats. The Wired Cafe just opened up yesterday. Around the corner from Club Friday/Impact the spot should attract workers heading down from the Link toward Russell and should benefit from nearby theatre and club traffic and possibly from the renovation of the Winthrop. Reports have it that they have some mean wraps as my co-worker told me he thoroughly enjoyed a Thai chicken wrap he tried out. They're open for breakfast and lunch and even up until 5pm and (as any respectible cafe should) they have free wifi.

Anyone else been there yet? Since my office is no longer in that neck of the woods I rarely get down there unless this whole City Council meeting thing becomes more common for me. Drop your comments and let me know what you think!

Thanks Mark!

Winthrop wrap-up

Although I couldn't stick around for the duration of last night's City Council meeting they voted in favor of the AF Evans funding resolution. Have no fear, however, there is an inked deal to get the Winthrop in the hands of developers eyeing it's prospects as a hotel. The Quigg/Trabucco group has already pulled some support and money together and now has 30 days to decide. My hats off to them for sticking their neck out and here's to hopin'!

There's a 6:30am meeting/press conference being put on by Tim Quigg at the 9th and Broadway Tully's [ map ] on Monday 9/25. Should be fun to hear their progress and what the plan to try and do. Otherwise, and in the meantime, here's a link-rich wrap-up of post-meeting coverage:

9/21 - Cliff Colon @ Jazzbones

Lemme tell you 'bout a man named Cliff. Well, he plays him some mean tenor sax and will be flexin' his chops tomorrow night at 8:30pm Jazzbones. His style should be pretty wide open as he and his crew spit out some drum and bass funk. My kind of stuff.

Cliff and I go back to college at PLU when I played in the jazz ensemble there with him. Funny how, as time passed, even though we live just across town our live diverged just enough that I can't remember the last time I saw him. Well Cliff, this is me saying I'm gonna see you tomorrow night. I miss hearing you play and can't wait to take some of it in. Plus, you can't argue with a night scene without smoking. Look sharp, Cliff, 'cause you know I'm always packin' (my camera, that is)!

I'd link everyone over to his website or mySpace but neither appear to be up. Instead, I'll drop an embarrasing pic below in hopes that it'll grab his attention enough that he'll get himself back online.

Nerdy version of Cliff Colon
