My first Carl's

I'm not much of a fast food kinda' guy but there's nothing wrong with fighting a personal stereotype once in a while. That's what I did Friday night when friends Angela and Steve asked us to join them at the new local Carl's Jr. Just off 6th and Pearl access to the place was good with plenty of parking in the Highland Hill Shopping Center. From there we waited in a pretty impressive line for a fast food joint. When we got there our place in it was just outside the door.

Happily for the hungry throngs we were at the counter ordering before we knew it and although the staff seemed frazzled they did a fine job cranking out of dinner. We all headed back to our place to enjoy everything next. I tried out a western bacon cheeseburger complete with all that implies plus onion rings (on the burger). Sarah got some of the fried zuccini she remembered from childhood in California while Angela and Steve pretty much stuck with a couple classic burgers. The french fries got praise from Angela who normally turns down any fries not from McDonalds and I tried out Steve's CrissCut fries which were like very tasty curly seasoned fries but flat-ish.

Good stuff indeed and you can bet I'll be getting back to the gym this week just to feel like I've worked that meal off. I'm sure, in a pinch, I'll be back but certainly won't become any kind of regular. Bravo to Carl's nonetheless for in the world of fast food they do a bang up job!

Somehow your series of pictures and post reminds me of the move "Super Size Me."

Why do you think I nearly completely avoid fast food?

Ahhh, but those fries! Insert Homer drool here!

Indeed. In the words of Mike Meyers as the Scottish dad in So I Married an Axe Murderer: "They put an addictive chemical in it that makes you crave it fort nightly!"

Your first Carl's Jr? You're kidding.

And where there's a Carl's Jr, there will be also a Sonic, a McDonald's, a Burger King, a Taco Bell... the list is endless. Please tell me Tacoma has THOSE fast food chains too. I thought that they were EVERYwhere by now.

No Sonic up here. I'm more gunning for a Bugerville up here. That's some seriously quality fast food.

I've gotta agree with Kevin on this one...Burgerville is seriously gourmet fast food. If such a thing really exists.

Dont' feel bad, Kevin, I've never eaten a Carl's burger before either.

And we have never eaten at a Burgerville, but as we're headed to Portland later this week I'll make sure we stop at one. Any suggestions on what to get?

Either the Tillamook or Pepper Bacon Cheeseburgers are pretty awesome. That and, if it's not too cold, their shakes are to die for. The black forrest with its espresso and cherries is pretty rockin'.
