Seeking fall colors (inquire within)

Fall colorsA co-worker took a jab at my urban living yesterday by pointing out how much fall color she sees on her drive into work from Orting. I suppose I didn't need to admit seeing so few such colors since living in town but it did make me want to seek some out this weekend. I'm such a botanical ninny that if I follow the suggestion of this article in today's Trib, I won't be looking for any specific type of tree. I'll instead just be seeking mass amounts of photos. If everything works out my plan is to head up Mt. Rainier way -- not sure which way, mind you, but it would be fun to get out a bit.

Know any good spots for fall color around the PNW? Mt. Rainier? Kitsap Peninsula? Lemme know below!

P.S. - Would any other like-minded photo taker types like to carpool/caravan if indeed I do head out this weekend? I'm no expert in this sort of thing but it would be fun to bundle up and get out. Plus, the forecast doesn't even look to bad.

No news from Winthrop Hotel group

No news has been forthcoming from the Quigg/Trabucco camp regarding meeting today's due diligence deadline to purchase the Winthrop from AF Evans. Sounds like their still in negotiations  and an annoucement will be made at the regular 6am Monday meeting.

There's also a somewhat disheartening article in today's Tacoma Weekly (thanks Jake!) concerning hotel rennovation. Seems the cost of transforming rooms suitable for a 4-star hotel might be "30 to 40 percent more" according to the article. The only other possible gloom comes from the following snippet:

Evans still has an option to purchase the building, which expires Oct. 28. [Ryan Petty, director of the Community and Economic Development Department] Petty said Evans still appears set on buying the building.

Mayor Bill Baarsma speculated that Evans is not as excited by this prospect as they once were.

Still, the Mayor seems optimistic that if Coast Hotels is still interested the hotel project will move forward.

Stay tuned for more after Monday's meeting. For now, head over to the Tacoma Daily Index to check out photos from inside the Winthrop (once there, search for "winthrop") or read about the Winthrop's last grand re-opening as new affordable housing.
